Toobz and Toobz-Free 1.4.1 Submitted

Hello!

Just a quick note to let folks know that I’ve just submitted a patch release for Toobz and Toobz-Free that fixes a couple of really annoying (and somewhat embarrassing) bugs:

  • At times, resuming a “Show Toobz” game will revert back to “Classic”.  This usually happens if you leave Toobz between levels.
  • The water will look correct if you’re using the “Classic” graphics.

And that’s all!  I’m working on a couple new things so as always, stay tuned and thank you very much for your support!

Toobz with Sounds!

Hello!

Sorry, it’s been a while since an update, but that’s mainly because I’ve been working on a new version of Toobz.  It was just posted on the App store late last week and I’m proud to say that Toobz now has a custom background score and sound effects!

I had a good time adding these sounds and I really like how the background score came out.  I worked with David from Atomicon which was a pleasure.  I really like how things turned out and it’s a great feeling hearing Toobz now.

Unfortunately, in my haste in getting the update out to everyone, I did mess up the upgrade process a bit.  When you first run the new version of Toobz it will ask you if you want to enable sounds.  Hitting “Yes” doesn’t actually work… I’m really bummed about that,  but at least there’s a workaround that I’ve confirmed with folks: if you go into the settings and turn on and off the switches for Sound and Music a couple times, it will reset the settings correctly.

I’ve got an update that will fix things and hopefully we’ll see that soon.  Once you get sounds enabled, though, with the trick above, everything will be fine.

In addition to the sounds I added a couple more backgrounds, and a few bug fixes.

Enjoy, and thank you for playing Toobz!

AppsAddicts Review

Happened across another review of Toobz from the fine folks at AppsAddicts.  A nice writeup with a 9/10 rating always puts a smile on a developer’s face!  Thanks!

Toobz-Free 1.3 Released

A lot of you already know this, but yesterday Toobz-Free was approved and found its way to the App Store!  It was great to see that we had an approval after just a week — hopefully we’re back on that schedule.

I’ve had a report of two minor bugs which probably affect Toobz in addition to Toobz-Free.  The more annoying of the two is if you hit the ’start water’ button right as the timer reaches 0:00.  The water will never start and you’ll be stuck being able to drop in any Toobz that you want without any water.  At that point you’ll need to reset the game (tap the ‘Info’ button).

The other bug is if you have water spill when the timer is blinking red.  The next game will start with a red blinking timer, even though you’re not under 10 seconds yet.  Luckily that goes away if you advance to the next level.

I’ll get these bugs fixed and submitted as soon as I can, and see what else I can drop into the release, as well.

Thanks for playing Toobz!

Toobz-Free 1.3 Submitted

Hello!

A quick note to the Toobz-Free players — I’ve just submitted version 1.3 which adds the same features as Toobz 1.3: Twitter support and classic graphics.  The same limit of five levels of play remains in place.  The last Toobz update took close to three weeks to get through the approval process, but I’ve heard that they’ve sped things up with recent updates so you never know.  I’m hoping we’re back to the seven day review period from before.

Version 1.3 Approved!

A quick note that version 1.3 of Toobz has been approved!  It was added to the App Store late last night.

As I mentioned before, this version’s main feature is that you can setup your Twitter account in Toobz and then have the option to tweet your scores.  After less than 24 hours out in the wild some folks are already tweeting!  I’m going to try and setup some monitoring, including listing the latest score tweets on this web site.  Stay tuned — soon you’ll be able to see how your scores stack up to the rest of the community!

Now that Toobz has tweeting I’ll work on adding that option into Toobz-Free, perhaps with some restrictions.

Enjoy!

Interview with appbite

The folks at appbite.com were kind enough to put Off Center Software into their new Developer Spotlight!  I enjoyed answering their questions and I’m honored to be their first spotlight.

No updates for Toobz yet… still waiting for our latest version to be approved and I’m still hard at work on the next version.  As soon as I have more news I’ll post them here first!

iPhone 3gs + Toobz Update

I couldn’t resist and picked up an iPhone 3gs from AT&T on Friday.  I was pretty surprised when I went there at 10:30am or so and they still had some!  A far cry from last year when it took me two weeks to finally track one down.

I got a black 32gb this time around, primarily so I can tell it apart from my white 3g.  The black back sure does show off fingerprints well!

Overall, though, this iPhone is FAST.  I bought Peggle when it was $0.99 and comparing its startup from my iPhone 3g to the 3gs is amazing.  The 3gs starts in about five seconds compared to 15 or so on the 3g.  Everything else is nice and fast, too.  Add on the new camera + video and the compass, not to mention double the memory… I love it.  Now I just need to order my Zagg shield and I’m good to go.

In Toobz news… version 1.3 was submitted on Sunday evening, so I’m hoping it will be approved in the next week or so.  I’ve heard that approvals are lagging behind a bit these days… in the past I’ve had a consistent 7 day review wait which was great.  I’m a little worried about this time around, but we’ll see.

Two major changes for version 1.3 — I added back in the “classic” graphics (the original ones from my November release) because I had a few comments about folks liking them better.

The other big change is that I added the ability to tweet out your Toobz scores so all your friends can see your score.  I’ve been noticing that Toobz comes up every now and then in Twitter which I think is just awesome.  I get a kick out of someone tweeting about how they just “lost” the past 30 minutes by playing Toobz.  Happy to help! :-)

I’ve already started working on version 1.4 which adds a new game type.  I’m really excited about this one… I think everyone will like it because… you can finally rotate the Toobz!  But, in my humble opinion, rotating makes the game easier so you know I have to balance that out somehow… stay tuned!

Thanks again for everyone’s support of Toobz… keep the comments and feedback coming.  I read and try to respond to everything.

Two more reviews

A couple more reviews… one from twitter and one from a comment (thanks!):

This review Dave’s squarespace site.

And this review on Appmodo.

Thank you to both sites for taking the time to review Toobz.  It’s incredibly gratifying seeing people talk about Toobz.
